No matter what lighting you decide on, you will find that when chosen right, it will advance the beauty and functionality of any room. Lighting always sets the mood for your room. So your job as a light fixture amateur is to decide what each room in the house will be used for and what lighting is best to enhance it function.
We're still keeping it simple by merely hanging a gigantic pendant above the wash basin instead of wall lights or any other light fixtures. If your bathroom is small, this one fixture will solve all your lighting needs.
Surprisingly, most LED lights are incompatible with traditional dimmer switches, which means that you might have to replace those switches with more LED friendly ones. You see, dimmers work by decreasing the amount of energy that gets sent to a light bulb, thus saving you energy. However, LEDs are already energy-efficient, so there's really no need to be using dimmers with them in the first place, as their brightness is by no means an indication of the energy being used. But for those who prefer to keep their dimmers, there are LED optimised dimmers that you can purchase to replace your traditional ones, or you can purchase a dimmer-compatible LED light. Both are rather expensive options, but it's better to know beforehand what you'll be getting yourself into, and they're well worth the cost in the end.
It always helps to know the proper terms to describe a fixture you're using. Here are definitions of some of the more common words and phrases used with recessed lighting:
