Although landscape lighting brings your garden and exterior amenities to life at night time, facade or feature lighting to the exterior of your home should also be considered. If the landscaping has been done correctly it should compliment the house properly during the day. Why not extend the landscape lighting to the exterior surfaces of the home as well.
You can go for a solar option if you want to, they come in variety of forms. There are lanterns, tiki torches, walkway and driveway lights and small floodlights. You can explore these options and you don't need to worry about installing electricity. As the technology has progressed to great extent, solar light functions in a better way than previous. Even on shady or cloudy conditions the lights can be charged.
One of the more unique and visually-pleasing lighting techniques in decorative garden lighting is the use of fiber optics. Fiber optics is the science of transmitting light via optical fibers. Optical fibers are extruded cylinders of plastic or glass used to transmit light. All that is required to illuminate the optic fibers is a single light bulb; making fiber optic lighting an affordable garden lighting choice. Another great advantage of fiber optic lighting is that it uses no electrical current; therefore it is safe to place in and around water without danger of electrocution. Therefore, fiber optic lighting can be used to illuminate a garden pond, tree trunks and branches, shrubs, plant containers and even a patio deck.
Consider the height of the light. When placed above a table or counter, it should be at least 30" above the surface. Else, it should end at 7' from the floor. When placing for decorative purposes, as long as it does not impede movement, the height of the light can be anything you wish it to be.
