Positioning of an outdoor light is really very crucial. It should serve two main purposes, lightening up and decorating. An outdoor light positioned above the gate can be both decorative as well as illuminative. One does get the feeling of walking on the moonlight if it is positioned somewhere in the height. Sometimes it can be placed in the base to illuminate the entire structure such as a tree or fountain.
A desk lamp is not going to take up so much space. They do well on the side of a desk or at the end of a shelf. Some models have features that allow the lamp to be clamped to a surface or hung, depending on how they are to be used.
Opt for 'UL Listed' LED bulbs and not for 'UL Compliant' bulbs, as the UL Compliant bulbs have only followed guidelines given by the Underwriters Laboratory, whereas the UL Listed bulbs have undergone stringent testing, which guarantees a good performance.
Normally landscape lighting is added after the landscaping has been completed. With this in mind it would be a good idea to lay conduits or ducts into your garden. This would minimize any trench digging when it came time to run your low voltage wiring. Map out where you think you will want your light fittings and lay conduits or ducts to suit.
